Wat hebben we geschreven?

Anna en haar man Leon leiden een fantastisch bedrijf genaamd INTI Knitwear, dat lokale Zuid-Amerikaanse vrouwen aan werk (en tijdsbesteding) helpt in de bergen van Ecuador. Jaarlijks komt Anna een paar keer aankloppen voor artikelen in hun seizoensmagazine. Samen geven we haar verbindende missie weer en schrijf ik verhalen op die klanten inzicht geven in het brei- en ontwerpproces.

Als fervent reiziger vind ik het heerlijk om in deze avontuurlijke en warme mentaliteit te duiken. Wie schrijft er nu - over alpaca’s, vulkanen en familie - voor zo’n eerlijk en mooi bedrijf als INTI? Ik. Dankbaar.

The INTI studio in Ecuador proudly works with a big team of loyal craftswomen. Together with designer Anna, these driven ‘lead-knitters’ discuss the process, from pattern to button type. Then, instructions are passed on to their more than 700 local knitters, who work from home. One of these knitting women will craft your INTI garment by hand, with the utmost care and precision. We provide a tag with the name of your knitter and the production number of the – sometimes limited – item. So, who are these skilled ladies?

Our factory is located opposite a volcano – when it’s sunny, it’s hot in town! Still, the local women prefer to wear their alpaca woollen sweaters on a daily basis, rain or sun. They work from the little villages in the region, wandering through the streets, always knitting. The men in their lives aren’t around much – they work in the big cities and only come home on the weekend. Social life in the small north-Ecuadorian town consists of knitting, calling, knitting, walking, calling, knitting, eating, knitting, laughing.
